Michael S. Freitas, MD, MS

MFreitas webDr. Michael Freitas is a Board Certified Family Physician who joined the practice at Highgate Medical Group following Fellowship in August 2014. Dr. Freitas currently works at our West Amherst office on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s.

Dr. Freitas graduated from Northeastern University, Bouve College of Health Services in Boston, MA with an MS degree in Physical Therapy and a BS degree in Rehabilitation Science. He also graduated from The University at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences as a Doctor of Medicine in 2010. He completed his family medicine residency in 2013 at The University at Buffalo where he served as the program’s Academic Chief Resident. He then completed his Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Training in 2014 at The University at Buffalo, UB Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Buffalo, NY.

His professional affiliations include The American Academy of Family Physicians, The New York Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, Medical Society of the State of New York, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and American College of Sports Medicine

Professional work experience includes working as an Urgent Care Physician for MASH Urgent Care, and he is currently the Team Medical Director for the Western New York Flash of the National Women’s Soccer League, is an Assistant Team Physician for the University at Buffalo Athletics Teams, and is formerly a Sports Medicine Fellow at the University at Buffalo – UB Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Freitas received several honors including 2013 Resident Teacher Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine; PGY-3 and PGY-1 Outstanding Service Award from the University at Buffalo Department of Family Medicine; Award for Outstanding Research from the 13th Annual Scholarly Exchange Day from the University at Buffalo; Medical Alumni Association Dean’s Awards and Dean’s Letter of Commendation from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine.

Dr. Freitas, originally from Kingston, Massachusetts, now who resides in Buffalo, and in his free time enjoys cooking, golf, skiing and spending time with his family.
